Native translators for Malaysian, Singaporean, and Bruneian Malay. Business documents, legal contracts, and website localization for Southeast Asian markets.
Malay (Bahasa Melayu) is the official language of Malaysia, Brunei, and one of four official languages of Singapore. With approximately 290 million speakers across the wider Malay-speaking world, it serves as the primary lingua franca of Southeast Asia. Malaysia and Singapore are two of the region's most internationally active economies, with strong sectors in finance, technology, manufacturing, and commodities. Brunei's energy industry generates significant translation demand for contracts, regulatory submissions, and technical documentation.

Malay and Indonesian share a common linguistic origin and are largely mutually intelligible in everyday conversation. However, they have diverged significantly in vocabulary, spelling, and formal conventions. Many everyday words differ between the two languages, and official and legal terminology can vary substantially. For professional translation targeting Malaysia or Brunei, BeTranslated uses native Malay translators, not Indonesian translators.
We confirm the target market before assigning a translator. Malaysian Malay (Bahasa Malaysia) is the appropriate variant for Malaysia and uses the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka spelling standards. Singaporean Malay follows slightly different conventions suited to Singapore's multilingual official context. Bruneian Malay has its own administrative terminology for official documents. We specify the variant and confirm it with the client before work begins.
Yes. We provide certified Malay translation for legal documents, immigration applications, academic certificates, company filings, and official correspondence. Our certified translators produce output accepted by Malaysian government agencies, courts, and embassies requiring certified Malay documentation.
